How to Treat Acne on Black Skin

Ethnic Acne & Dark Spots
Acne affects people of all races & while acne can be treated on all skin types, acne treatments for darker skin tones need to be carefully monitored and managed.

 Why?
Darker skin tones have more activemelanocytes. Melanocytes are the cells in the dermis that create pigment. Since these cells are more active, they are more likely to form pigment from any action at all, even during their treatments for acne.

 Deeper Skin Tones:
People of Middle Eastern, Hispanic, African and Asian decent have skin that can differ significantly when discussing dark spots and red spots left over from acne breakouts.

These marks tend to be more stubborn and last longer in darker skin toned people.
Along with stubborn marks and hyperpigmentation, people of African and Asian decent can produce hyperactive healing, which leads to Keloid Scars ( raised scars.) So when treating acne it is important to take into consideration the healing patterns of these clients to avoid anything that could prompt long lasting scars.
